Achord, 37, has been involved in coaching since 2010, starting as a special teams graduate assistant at Southern Mississippi. He later served as a special teams coordinator, quarterbacks coach, running backs coach, and tight ends coach at Southwest Mississippi Community College. In 2017, he took on the additional role of offensive coordinator at the college. Achord transitioned to the NFL when he was hired by Bill Belichick as a special teams assistant for the New England Patriots in 2018, eventually being promoted to special teams coordinator in 2020 after Joe Judge, the previous coordinator, became the head coach of the New York Giants.

Achord remained in the special teams coordinator position with the Patriots until last season. The Giants had a vacancy for an assistant special teams coach after reassigning Mike “Pop” Adams, who previously held the role, to assistant secondary coach last month as part of a coaching staff reorganization.
