While the Denver Broncos might seem to lack a quarterback based on their roster, they could already have their 2024 starter among their current players.

Increasingly, it seems probable that Jarrett Stidham will start as the quarterback for the Denver Broncos at the beginning of the 2024 season. According to a recent update by Mike Klis of 9 News, Stidham is currently the frontrunner for the starting position, with the team considering the addition of a rookie quarterback to complement him.

ESPN’s Jeff Legwold mentioned on Sunday that the Denver Broncos haven’t shown assertiveness in pursuing quarterbacks in the free agency market. Despite Coach Sean Payton’s expressed desire to address the quarterback position this offseason, it seems improbable that the Broncos will make a move in that direction.

The Broncos are facing significant limitations primarily due to the substantial dead cap hit incurred from releasing Russell Wilson. This hampers their ability to compete with teams offering top quarterback salaries. For instance, the Minnesota Vikings signed Sam Darnold for $10 million, a deal that would have consumed approximately half of the Broncos’ available cap space.

While Jarrett Stidham may not instill a great deal of confidence, the Broncos find themselves with limited alternatives. Despite holding the 12th overall pick in the draft, it might be too late for them to secure one of the top quarterbacks available.
