Packers’ Defensive Transition: Anthony Campanile’s Role in Shaping Green Bay’s Future

In Green Bay, the Packers are poised to bring on Anthony Campanile, currently serving as linebackers coach and run game coordinator for the Miami Dolphins, to fulfill the same role within their organization. As reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Campanile’s primary task will be assisting newly appointed coordinator Jeff Hafley in transitioning the Packers’ defensive scheme to a 4-3 formation.

During his tenure with the Dolphins spanning four seasons, Campanile contributed to the team’s defensive success, notably aiding in Miami’s ranking as the tenth-best team in yards per carry, averaging 4.21 yards between 2020 and 2023. In contrast, the Packers’ defense struggled in this aspect, surrendering an average of 4.66 yards per carry, placing them 31st in the NFL during the same timeframe, as detailed by Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated.

Campanile’s prowess as a coach attracted significant interest during the recent hiring cycle, evident from his candidacy for the Giants’ defensive coordinator position and Philadelphia’s pursuit of him as their linebackers coach. Notably, the Eagles recently appointed Vic Fangio, Campanile’s former superior and the Dolphins’ defensive coordinator, further showcasing the recognition of Campanile’s coaching abilities.

Interestingly, former Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry is set to assume Campanile’s vacated position as linebackers coach and run game coordinator for the Dolphins, as reported by multiple sources.
