Texans’ Offseason Outlook: Capitalizing on Cap Space and Free Agency Opportunities

The Houston Texans face a significant number of their players hitting free agency this offseason, topping all teams in this regard. Fortunately, they possess the fifth-largest cap space in the league, exceeding $65 million, as reported by spotrac, which offers a silver lining for general manager Nick Caserio and coach DeMeco Ryans.

While there’s a necessity to re-sign several of their own players, the Texans also have the flexibility to bring in a couple of free agents of their choice. Despite their 10-7 record last season, their performance in certain areas, particularly running the ball, was lackluster. With players like C.J. Stroud and Will Anderson Jr. forming a strong foundation on both sides of the field, adding key free agents could further solidify their roster.

One potential addition is running back Saquon Barkley, whose explosive capabilities could significantly boost the Texans’ offense. Despite a challenging season with the New York Giants, Barkley managed impressive stats, showcasing his value despite the team’s struggles.

Another area of improvement could be at the edge rusher position, with Danielle Hunter from the Minnesota Vikings being a viable candidate. Pairing him with Anderson Jr. could create a formidable defensive line, given Hunter’s impressive track record in generating sacks.

On the offensive line, the Texans could target Mike Owenu from the New England Patriots. Owenu’s versatility and familiarity with Caserio could make him an attractive option, especially considering potential openings at left guard and right tackle for the Texans.
