According to a report, Siran Neal, a former standout on special teams and backup defensive back for the Buffalo Bills, is scheduled to meet with the New York Giants on Monday.
Neal, who will be 30 years old in August, was recently released by the Bills, resulting in a savings of nearly $3 million in cap space for Buffalo.
Primarily recognized for his contributions on special teams rather than in the defensive backfield, Neal has only started one game on defense in his six seasons with the Bills since being drafted in the fifth round in 2018. His defensive playing time has been limited, accumulating just 108 snaps over the past two seasons.
However, Neal has been a consistent presence on special teams, never playing fewer than 242 snaps in a season. During his tenure with the Bills, he amassed a total of 658 special teams snaps over the past two seasons.
The Giants’ general manager, Joe Schoen, is familiar with Neal, as is the new special teams coordinator, Michael Ghobrial, who closely observed Neal over the past three seasons while serving as an assistant with the Jets.
Two standout special teams players for the Giants, Cam Brown and Carter Coughlin, are set to enter free agency.
Neal is versatile and capable of fulfilling various roles on special teams. Last season in Buffalo, he contributed to five out of the six special teams units, with the exception of the field goal/extra point unit.
