Former BYU Cougars linebacker Sione Takitaki has reached an agreement on a multi-year contract with the New England Patriots, as confirmed by ESPN’s Mike Reiss and NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

The deal was reported by the NFL insiders on Monday, March 11, just ahead of the official commencement of NFL free agency when the new league year begins on March 13.

Announcing the deal on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Reiss stated, “The Patriots are in agreement with former Browns LB Sione Takitaki on a 2-year deal, his agent.” Reiss also provided details on Takitaki’s professional background, noting that the linebacker, standing at 6 feet 1 inch and weighing 238 pounds, enters his sixth NFL season. Over his career, Takitaki has appeared in 72 games, starting in 36, and has accumulated 269 tackles and 4 sacks.

According to Pelissero, Takitaki’s contract with the Patriots is valued at $6.5 million with the potential to earn bonuses totaling up to $10 million over the span of two years. Takitaki, who spent the first five seasons of his career with the Cleveland Browns, notably contributed to the team’s 11-6 record last season, which led to a Wild Card round appearance in the NFL Playoffs.
