From Colts to Giants: McKenzie’s Journey and Colts’ Next Steps in WR Search

McKenzie joined the Colts just a year ago but had limited production with only 11 receptions for 82 yards and no touchdowns.

Colts suspend ex-Bills receiver Isaiah McKenzie

Although he started two games and appeared in 13, he was unexpectedly sidelined as a healthy scratch due to an internal matter handled by the Colts. Initially, the team intended to utilize McKenzie in various roles, including a gadget role and potentially in the slot, but the emergence of rookie Josh Downs hindered those plans. As a result, McKenzie’s playing time dwindled, and he found himself primarily contributing on special teams before eventually seeing his role reduced.

Seeking to reignite his career, McKenzie seeks familiarity by reuniting with Giants’ head coach Brian Daboll, under whom he excelled during his time in Buffalo and showed significant promise early in his career.

With McKenzie’s departure, the Colts now need to fill the void for a WR4 or potential special teams contributor. They may consider internal options, particularly Ashton Dulin, who impressed before a season-ending ACL injury. General Manager Chris Ballard expressed confidence in Dulin’s abilities during a recent press conference and anticipates his return by the start of training camp. Dulin not only excels on special teams but also provides depth as a wide receiver when needed.

Anticipate the Colts to remain active in searching for wide receiver reinforcements throughout the offseason.
