The Green Bay Packers have no uncertainty regarding their starting quarterback for the 2024 season, with Jordan Love firmly in place. However, the backup quarterback position behind Love remains open to potential adjustments.
According to Timothy Rapp of Bleacher Report, Green Bay has been listed among the top six potential destinations for either Zach Wilson from the New York Jets or former Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
Timothy Rapp stated on March 17th that the current backups supporting the rising talent Jordan Love in Green Bay are Sean Clifford, a fifth-round pick from 2023, and Alex McGough. Rapp suggests that the Packers might explore enhancing their backup quarterback position during the offseason.
The New York Jets selected Zach Wilson as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 draft and signed him to a rookie deal worth $35.15 million, sourced from BYU. This contract is set to conclude after the 2024 season. Regardless of the outcome of the upcoming season, it is widely acknowledged that Wilson has not met the expectations associated with both his contract and draft position.
Should Zach Wilson receive an opportunity to play, it’s unlikely to be with the New York Jets. Aaron Rodgers is in good health and is set to remain the team’s starting quarterback. Additionally, the Jets secured Tyrod Taylor with a two-year contract worth $12 million in free agency, presumably with the intention of him serving as Rodgers’ backup.
In late February, the New York Jets allowed Zach Wilson to explore potential trade opportunities, as reported by the Associated Press. Throughout his first three NFL seasons, Wilson faced challenges, including being demoted from the starting lineup by the Jets coaching staff multiple times. However, he has also demonstrated moments of genuine competence at the quarterback position.
Wilson has a record of 12 wins and 21 losses as a starting quarterback. Last season, he achieved a career-high completion rate of 60.1%. Throughout his NFL career, he has accumulated 6,293 passing yards, along with 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions.
The suggested trade value for Wilson is expected to be modest, likely capped at a Day-3 draft pick, potentially around a seventh-round selection.
