Transfer Gain: Cleveland Browns Outsmart Rivals To Sign Top Player to Join Quarterback Corps

The Baltimore Ravens and their fanbase anticipated losing some free agents this offseason, but they likely didn’t anticipate so many key players signing with division rivals. The latest former Raven to join an AFC division rival is backup quarterback Tyler Huntley, who signed with the Cleveland Browns.

The news was broken by Mary Kay Cabot, Browns’ beat writer for “cleveland.com,” who announced, “#Browns have agreed to terms with former #Ravens QB Tyler Huntley.” Huntley enters a crowded quarterback room in Cleveland, as the Browns have been active this offseason in bolstering the position, following a season where they had four different starting quarterbacks.

Huntley is expected to compete with Jameis Winston and Dorian Thompson-Robinson to back up Deshaun Watson, who is currently recovering from a season-ending injury suffered against the Ravens in the 2023 season.

According to Cabot, the deal is structured around the veteran minimum salary with some added incentives. While Huntley was also in talks with the Philadelphia Eagles, they ultimately acquired Kenny Pickett from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Browns’ decision to stockpile quarterbacks stems from last season’s experience when former Ravens QB Joe Flacco was signed mid-season. Flacco helped lead the Browns to a playoff berth, but he has since signed with the Indianapolis Colts this offseason.
